2018 Highlights in Altavista
2018 was an exciting year for Altavista, new businesses started and expanded, more downtown improvements were added, and the community partnered together for new downtown events. Here are some of our favorite memories of 2018!
New 24-Hour Gym Opened Downtown
Vista Fitness 24, a new 24-hour and locally owned gym opened downtown January of 2018. Owners Justin and Alyssa Campbell offer 24-hour access to fitness, group fitness classes, tanning beds, new equipment, and more! If you haven’t checked out Vista Fitness 24, make it your new years resolution to try something new!
2. Altavista Appliance Re-Brands as Hailey’s Appliance
In the Spring of 2018, long standing business Alavista Appliance moved to 426 7th Street, re-branded as Hailey’s Appliance, and expanded in an additional location in Lynchburg. Hailey’s Appliance new focus will be on house and garden/lawn appliances.
3. Businesses Partnered together for Town-Wide Events
You may have noticed an increase of business promotional events such as Shop Small Saturday, Spring Fling, and the Holiday Open House. Area Businesses, AOT, and the Chamber of Commerce all decided to partner together to create more business promotional events that would help bring new visitors into town to shop, dine, and explore. Through these events and added promotion, foot traffic is increases and tourism increases, a win win for everyone!
4. AOT Brought Food Truck Events Downtown
In an effort to bring new and exciting events downtown, AOT kicked off the summer season by hosting a series of food truck events on Broad Street. The events helped increase foot traffic downtown, brought new people into Broad Street businesses, and created a family friendly event with delicious food!
5. Joe Beans Opened in Altavista
After much anticipation and excitement, Joe Beans Coffee opened on Main Street in Altavista. Joe Beans is a locally owned, drive through coffee business. With accessible hours and seasonal beverages. Joe Beans is located on 1280 Main Street, Altavista.
6. New Dance Studio Opens Downtown
Rhythm and Company Dance Studio opened on Main Street in Altavista in early fall. Owner Amy Woosley teaches ages from 4-18 all types of dance classes including ballet, pointe, acro-dance, tap, clogging, jazz, lyrical, and contemporary.
7. More Snowflakes Downtown!
The year AOT and the Staunton River Garden Club partnered together to add additional snowflakes downtown. Together the organizations purchased 13 new snowflakes to place on Main Street, which totals to 28 snowflakes downtown. Over the next few years, AOT and the Staunton River Garden Club hope to keep on adding to the snowflakes to bring more holiday cheer to Altavista.
